Smishing
Smishing is phishing by text message (SMS): a text that tricks you into tapping a link, calling a number or sending money.
Common smishing texts claim a parcel is held for a small fee, a bank card is blocked, or a family member has a new number and needs help.
Texts feel more personal than email, and links are hard to inspect on a small screen. That makes smishing effective.
Don't tap links in unexpected texts. Open the company's app or type its address yourself, and call family members on the number you already have.
