Malware

Malware (malicious software) is any program designed to harm a device or its user, for example by stealing data, spying, or locking files.

The main families are viruses and worms, which spread; trojans, which disguise themselves; spyware and infostealers, which steal; and ransomware, which extorts.

Malware usually gets in through unpatched software, fake downloads and updates, or attachments and links in messages.

Install updates promptly, get apps only from official sources, keep built-in protection switched on, and back up your files.
